Buy Local, wherever possible!

Given the current state of our economy and the potential safety problems with imports, I have tried to be very aware of buying local products for my baby. While I cannot always find what I need from the shop around the corner, I at least look for products manufactured in the U.S.A.

I think I have become more conscious about this since I had my daughter because of all the issues with toys made in China. I have always tried to buy local products, but I have stepped up my efforts when buying baby bedding, cloth diapers, toys, baby gear, and accessories for the nursery. I like knowing that my money is being put back into our local economy, or at least the US economy instead of going overseas.

Here are some of the sites I have used to buy baby products with this principle in mind:

The Goodmama
I love these cloth diapers! These are made by WAHM's in the U.S.A. and the CEO of this company is very committed to fair labor practices. The diapers are made with organic bamboo velour and they are fabulous. They are expensive, but buying organic, locally-made products costs a little more. The advantages of buying products made in the U.S.A far exceeds the higher price tag.
Toys Made In America Site
This is an excellent resource for finding toys made in the U.S.A.
Ann Moze All Wood Toys
I Love these wooden toys! Enough said.

I'll add more links as I find them!

A wonderful site for USA made baby blankets and bedding is www.shopceliarachel.com. This is a North Carolina based company that manufactures their own products. I've sent the baby blankets as gifts and everyone's loved them.

Shopceliarachel.com is the online store for the company's outlet store that's located in their factory in North Carolina. They manufacture everything in the USA.The baby blankets, bedding may not be the "luxury" brand you're looking for, but it's an option for others who may want cute, soft, comfortable, high quality baby blankets and bedding at affordable prices. I'be bought a few and they're adorable. I'm sure babybedding.com is a great choice, too.

B--

It's not just a question of type of niche market anything high quality is a luxery these days, but where the profits go. If the parent company, Fab Industries manufactures items outside the USA, regardless of where they have a store or another factory, my point of view is that is different from companies that are entirely manufactured and designed in the USA. That is not what the parent company for Shopceliarachel indicates on their site. That's all I was saying. Thanks very much for your input, though and if my understanding is incorrect, let me know. I'd be happy to look at the product and review it, if the company desires.

Amy-
I went to the parent co. website and I don't know why you think they manufacture outside the USA? It states that their products are made and manufactured in the USA, their factories are in North Carolina and they are committed to only producing in the US as well as supporting US jobs. I think you may have been confused because they say they have customers who are both in the USA and support NAFTA, CAFTA. Selling products has nothing to do with their production. I agree with you and want to support USA manufacturers,as do others. I am confident that this company does too.
